Answers to common questions about Budget Envelopes — how envelopes work, how periods reset, how your data is stored, and how to get help.
Budget Envelopes is a manual budgeting app built around the envelope method. You create virtual envelopes (called "wallets"), assign each a budget cap, and manually log income and expenses against them. The app does not connect to your bank — you stay in control of where every dollar goes.
Each wallet belongs to exactly one cycle: weekly, monthly, or yearly. When a wallet's cycle ends, its budget resets automatically on the next period. You can mix wallets with different cycles in a single budget — the app gives you a unified view per period.
Yes. Use the period dropdown at the top of each tab (W / M / Y) to review history or plan ahead. The Budgeted and Spent totals at the top aggregate only the wallets in that period tab.
Each wallet card has a + button to log income or a top-up, and a − button to log an expense. Expenses reduce the wallet's remaining balance; top-ups increase it. All entries are added manually — there is no bank sync.
Daily Pace is the remaining budget for a wallet divided by the number of days left in its cycle. It gives you a quick sense of how much you can still spend per day without blowing the envelope.
Yes. You can attach a recurring schedule to any wallet so that predictable expenses (rent, subscriptions, etc.) deduct automatically on the dates you set. Recurring schedules support expenses only — not recurring income or top-ups.
Yes. The app is offline-first: your data is stored locally on your device and syncs to the cloud when you are signed in and online.
Your budget data lives locally on your device and, when you are signed in, is synced to Google Firebase servers over an encrypted connection. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Yes. You can use the app anonymously from first launch and upgrade to an authenticated account later without losing your data.
Yes. From the Profile screen you can export your transactions and request a copy of the data we hold about you.
From the Profile screen, tap Delete account. This removes your account record and associated budget data from our active systems. Residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period before being overwritten.
Core budgeting features are free. Some advanced features may require a subscription or one-time purchase through the Apple App Store or Google Play. See the Terms of Use for details on subscriptions and refunds.
